Using arts and media to put community safety into the spotlight, this web channel is based on user-generated content primarily created by children and young people.
Children interact with MS-YS by uploading media based around community safety topics and the social and local issues that affect them. Contributions are moderated by an expert panel and viewers are asked to rate each piece and add comments.
The MeSafe-YouSafe project grew out of social needs, the website is a method for children and young people to have their voices heard, The website is used for users to send each other messages and reply to comments around their issues, encouraging communication within a bigger community regarding safety concerns, safety advice and signposting to other services from the links off the website.
The project is an initiative between Trilby Multimedia and Achieving Together, a Mentoring Consultancy company and is funded from a diverse range of organisations and agencies.
MeSafe-YouSafe web channel is scheduled to go live in 2010.
MS-YS has been shortlisted for the Stay Safe Award by Children and Young People Now Magazine.
